Thousands apply for 'world's best job'
Tourism officials in Australia have been inundated with applications for "the best job in the world".

The job, on a tropical island, requires no formal qualifications except being willing to swim, snorkel, and sail.

In return the successful applicant will receive a salary of £70,000 for six months. They also get to live in a rent-free villa, with pool.

The post, advertised as "caretaker" on Hamilton Island in Australia's Whitsunday Islands, has already attracted so much interest the tourism department has had to upgrade from one server to 10.

Crook hid in carpet
A crook tried to dodge a police search by disguising himself as a carpet.

The thief rolled himself up in a giant rug and propped himself up against a balcony wall while cops searched his aunt's flat in Warsaw, Poland, after he held up a cosmetics shop.

He was only found after a two hour search when a fed up detective went out onto the balcony for a smoke and noticed the carpet was trembling.

Miroslaw Dabrowski, 32, is now facing 12 years in jail for armed robbery.

Hunt for lost love
A 72-year-old woman has launched a campaign to find a stranger who told her "I love you" - 40 years ago.

Regina Bradley met the mystery Welshman after flying into Gatwick airport in December 1968.
They arranged to meet later at London's Piccadilly Circus but she arrived late and they missed each other.

Regina, of Llangollen, North Wales, said she was "devastated", reports The Sun.
She later married and had two children - but never forgot her "dark-haired, good-looking" stranger.

Now divorced, she has spent thousands advertising and has travelled all over Wales searching for him.

She said: "He was the first to say he loved me and it's stayed with me for the last 40 years.
"Some people have ridiculed me for this but I'd love to find him while there's still time."

Girl laughs for 12 years
A Chinese couple are desperately seeking a cure for their daughter who has been laughing non-stop for 12 years.

The mother, Yang Longying, of Chongqing, says it started when her second child, Xu Pinghui, had a fever when she was just eight months old.

"Ever since then, she has been laughing uncontrollably," she told the Chongqing Evening Post.
The couple say the situation worsened when she reached two years old because she lost her ability to speak and could only laugh.

The girl's father, Xu Weiming, a construction worker, has spent virtually all of his wages, plus extra money he has borrowed, for medical treatment but to no avail.

"Seeing her laughing, we feel even sadder than if she were crying," he said.
A neurologist at Chongqing Medical College is now suggesting a brain scan to try and establish the cause of the girl's condition.
